A Black Bear
Black bears are the second smallest bear in the modded game, behind the Sun Bear. They are stronger than the panda, but weaker than the grizzly. Similarly to the panda, the black bear would rather run away than fight. Black bears lack confidence, or forget how strong they are, and are actually afraid of the player, and will run away from the player. However, if the player keeps following the black bear, it will become aggressive and attack. Black bears love to get into chests and barrels that the player leaves outside their base. A hungry black bear could smell to see if the chest/barrel has food in it, and will start breaking it to get the food inside, similar to the raccoon, however the raccoon doesn't break the entire container. Black bears are also afraid of wolves, which is ironic, as wolves are also afraid of black bears. Black bears also can eat salmon, and sweet berries. Black bears spawn with their cubs in caves close to the surface. The adult black bear will continue to bring it's food that it found too its cubs. Similar to polar bears and grizzlies, the black bear will also become aggressive to anything which gets too close to their cubs. Once it's cubs grow up, they will leave the den, and the mother no longer needs to bring food for them. Black Bears can also be made passive by feeding them any meat or fruits, but this isn't advised, as this lets the black bear know you have food, and it will sniff your inventory to see if you have food, and will follow you until you give it to them. Black Bears do not break the chests which are spawned naturally, they will only break chests which have been placed by the player. If you give a black bear your only food, it will eat it and leave you alone. Black bears live in taigas and occasionally regular forests, which makes them the most common bear you can find.
