The cardinal is a bright red bird, found in North and South America. The male is quite territorial and defends its home with song. Cardinals feast on fruit and seeds and are often found in forest and wetland.

A Cardinal Concept
Spawning[]
Cardinal spawn naturally in the overworld in groups of two to three. They can mostly be found in temperate forest biomes. Cardinals are gendered; the female is a brown colour and the male is red.
Drops[]
When an adult cardinal is killed, it drops:
- 0-2 feathers.
- 1 raw bird meat (1 cooked bird meat if killed while on fire).
- 1-3 XP when killed by a player or tamed wolf.
Behaviour[]
Cardinals are able to fly and will flee when approached by a player. They do not take fall damage.
While in a loaded chunk, an adult female cardinal will lay a cardinal egg every 5-10 minutes.
Breeding[]
Cardinals will breed if both a male and a female are present. To enter breeding mode, they must be fed wheat seeds, melon seeds, pumpkin seeds or beetroot seeds. A baby cardinal will spawn with a 50% chance of being male or female.
Baby cardinals can also be spawned by hatching a cardinal egg. An egg with a higher spawn rate will have a better chance of hatching successfully.
