Minecraft Mobs Wiki

Cockatoos are birds in the parrot family. They are recognizable by their prominent crests and curved bills. Cockatoos prefer to eat seeds, tubers, corms, fruit, flowers and insects. They often feed in large flocks. Currently there is only one species of cockatoo in Vanilla Minecraft, which is the cockatiel.

Cockatoo Concept

Spawning[]

Cockatoos spawn naturally in the overworld in groups of two to three. They can be found in jungles and savannahs.

Drops[]

When an adult cockatoo is killed, it drops:

  • 0-2 feathers.
  • 1 raw bird meat (1 cooked bird meat if killed while on fire).
  • 1-3 XP when killed by a player or tamed wolf.

Behaviour[]

Cockatoos are able to fly and will flee when approached by a player. They do not take fall damage.

While in a loaded chunk, a cockatoo will lay a cockatoo egg every 5-10 minutes.

Breeding[]

Cockatoos can only breed with each other if they are the same variant. They must be adults, and if fed wheat seeds, melon seeds, pumpkin seeds or beetroot seeds, a baby cockatoo will spawn. The variant of the baby will match that of its parents.

Baby cockatoos can also be spawned by hatching a cockatoo egg. The colour of the baby will match its mother. An egg with a higher spawn rate will have a better chance of hatching successfully.

Variants[]

ID Variant
0 Sulfur-crested Cockatoo
1 Galah
2 Palm Cockatoo
3 Gang-Gang Cockatoo
4 Major Mitchell's Cockatoo

There are five variants of the cockatoo, six if you include the cockatiel. Two of those variants have unique crests, the Palm Cockatoo with it's spiky crest, and the Gang-Gang cockatoo with it's curved crest.
