Guardians are hostile mobs that were added in PC in 1.8 Update along with Rabbits and Endermites.
Spawn[]
Guardians spawn naturally in ocean monuments. They also spawn near them. They have very low chances to spawn in open oceans, but they will spawn more often in dark places in the ocean.
Attack[]
Guardians attack the player by targeting him/her with their eye. They can see the player even if he/she is invisible, but will not attack him/her. Guardians also attack squids and will attack them even if they're invisible.
Combat[]
Guardians will attack the player by shooting him/her lasers. However, the guardian must wait several seconds so it can shoot lasers again and in the meanwhile it won't attack at all. Armor is recommended to fight guardians and an iron or a diamond sword. The player should also carry with him/her a potion of water breathing so he/she won't start drowning. Also, unlike other mobs in the game, guardians will not follow the player if goes too far.
Elder Guardians[]
Elder Guardians are stronger variants of Guardians. They spawn naturally at ocean monuments. They attack the player by shooting him/her lasers. When killed, they drop the same items as a guardian drops. Their color is grey and not light blue. They have more life points than a normal guardian and can damage the player more, which makes them more dangerous.

Note: burning a guardian to death will not cook the dropped fish or salmon.
Trivia[]
- Elder guardians have bigger size than normal guardians.
- They move their tails to swim.
- They are supposed to protect underwater temples.
- The player can stop the laser doing damage by hiding behind a wall.
